Kitesurfing kites shop | kitehood.com

Do you know that over 1.5 million of people in the world go into kite surfing? This sport is a combination of paragliding, surfing and wake boarding, which makes it truly unique and fun. If you are thinking of following the trend and starting your kite boarding sessions, it is vital to take care of proper equipment. Professionals recommend you to start from choosing the best surf kite that meets your needs. Below there is some useful information about three major types kites available on the market. They are SLE (Super Leading Edge), bow and C-shaped ones.

SLE or Hybrid Kites

The newest models of kitesurfing kites available are super leading edge kites, also known as hybrid ones. They ensure safety by providing proper de-power, essential for amateur and professional kite surfers alike. In comparison to bow kites, these ones are easier for you to pull upwind. However, as they fly upwind, these kites are considered less stable than bow ones. So, in order to successfully fly the kite, you have to keep an eye on both: your position and the position of your kite. SLE models ensure a fast turn giving you a positive feel when you rigorously turn your kite. Keep in mind that it may take quite some time to water re-launch hybrid kites.

Bow Kites

Also known as flat kitesurfing kites, bow models are considered to be the ones that ensure the easiest water re-launch. Due to their flat shape, these pieces of equipment “catch” more wind whilst offering a freedom of movement and better depowering. You don’t have to control your kite every second as bow models are pretty stable. In comparison to SLE kites, bow ones are not so easy to go upwind as they tend to fly back a bit. Furthermore, it is not so easy to turn such a kite because of that. So, if you buy a bow surf kite, be ready for hard work when you need perform turns.

C-shaped Kites

C-shaped kites are not recommended for beginners as they have poorer de-power than other types of kites. They are chosen by professionals to perform advanced tricks, jumps and kite looping as C-shaped kites are known to maintain proper pressure in the loops. Water re-launching is not easy, so you have to work hard to get your kite upright.

In order to choose the best kite, you need to consider your skills and your surfing style. If you don’t want to pour your money down the drain, it may be beneficial to consult your instructor or get more information about different types of kites from our qualified personnel.
